Greetings from Dr. Brian Edwards!

Dear Patients and Friends,

I hope this Newsletter for June 2024 finds you in good health and high spirits. As we embrace the warmer months ahead, I am excited to share some valuable insights and tips to support your spinal wellness journey.

Feature Article: Nurturing Healing Between Chiropractic Visits

In our practice, we often encounter questions about what individuals can do to facilitate healing between chiropractic appointments, especially for those dealing with lower back herniated discs. Here are some key points to consider:

  1. Stay Active, Minimize Twisting: While remaining active within your pain tolerances is important, it’s crucial to avoid activities that involve twisting, such as golf or tennis, which can aggravate herniated disks.
  2. Mindful Movement: Hip Hinging: Implementing proper body mechanics, such as hip hinging, can significantly reduce lumbar disk compression. Remember to bend your knees and arch your back before bending forward, especially in the morning when the disks are more hydrated.
  3. Neurodynamic Stretching: Incorporating nerve flossing or neurodynamic stretching techniques tailored to your specific herniation level can provide relief and support healing. Consult with your chiropractor for personalized recommendations.
  4. Home Exercises and Stretches: Your chiropractor may prescribe specific exercises and stretches to perform at home, designed to strengthen supporting muscles and promote flexibility. Adhering to these routines can enhance your progress between visits.

Remember, each patient is unique, and your treatment plan may vary based on your individual needs and clinical presentation. Never hesitate to discuss any concerns or questions with me if I am fortunate enough to treat you.

Health Tip of the Month: Hydration and Spinal Health

Staying hydrated is essential for overall health, including spinal wellness. Proper hydration supports the cushioning properties of spinal discs, helping to maintain their integrity and function. Aim to drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your spine happy and healthy!

Community Spotlight: Get Active Outdoors!

With summer approaching, now is the perfect time to embrace outdoor activities that promote movement and vitality. Whether it’s running, biking, or simply enjoying a leisurely stroll in nature, find activities that bring you joy and support your overall well-being. During the brutal South Florida summers, it is always best to complete your outdoor exercises no later than 10:00 in the morning.
